West Oakland African American Heritage Museum & Research Center
Big Man introduces the idea of a museum
Oakland CA, October 24, 2009
The theme of the WOAAHM is an introduction to Oakland CA as it existed in the past and highlighting the often minimized, ignored, and unknown contributions of African American, Native American, Asian, Hispanic, and other residents through photography, murals, artifacts, newspapers, films, and the written word.
The purpose is to provide the community with an educational institution with historical references, creative works, and media about the people who contributed to the rich culture and history of the City of Oakland.
WOAAHM will maintain a public center for research and host exhibits for Oakland citizens and visitors alike. School children, residents, and scholars from all over the world will benefit from this community resource.
